What makes a caravan off-grid capable
An off-grid caravan is one you can park up away from powered sites and keep living in for days or weeks at a time. That comes down to three things: power, water and waste.
- Power. Enough battery capacity, solar input and inverter output to run lights, fridge, fans, charging and the kettle without a generator. The bigger the lithium bank and the more solar on the roof, the longer you stay out.
- Water. Enough fresh water to cook, drink, shower and wash up between fills, plus enough grey water capacity to comply with park and station rules.
- Air conditioning. An inverter sized to start and run the AC on battery, which makes the difference between a usable van in summer and one you have to abandon by lunchtime.
A caravan with a small battery and a 200W solar panel will be off-grid for two nights. A caravan with the right kit will be off-grid for the length of your fresh-water supply.
How Titanium does off-grid
Standard across our off-grid models, scaled to the size of the van:
- Enerdrive B-Tech lithium batteries, sized from 400Ah up to 690Ah depending on model
- 800 to 1,400W of rooftop solar
- A 2,600W or larger inverter to run AC and high-draw appliances off-grid
- 245 to 400 litre fresh water capacity
- Grey water capacity sized to match
S3 and S4 are the S-series flagships, designed for couples and families who want a touring van that stays out for weeks at a time. WS1 is the W-series flagship, with the largest standard off-grid kit in the range. TS1 is the toy hauler, with full off-grid spec plus a rear garage for bikes or gear.
Who buys an off-grid caravan
Off-grid buyers usually fall into one of these groups:
- Couples doing the lap, who want to free-camp in stations and remote parks rather than book a powered site every night
- Families running long school-holiday trips through the dry season when powered sites book out months ahead
- Buyers heading into the Top End, the Kimberley or the Flinders Ranges where powered sites are rare
- Anyone who’s done one trip on a small battery and one tap and decided once was enough
Off-grid kit and off-road suspension are different things. A caravan can be off-grid capable without being off-road capable, and the other way around. Most buyers want both. See our off-road caravans for the chassis and suspension side of the conversation. If you tour as a couple, our couples caravans range covers the layouts. Hybrids carry the same off-grid kit at a smaller scale, see our hybrid caravans.
Off-road capability refers to suitability for unsealed and corrugated roads. Use in extreme or technical 4WD conditions may fall outside the intended design and void the warranty. See warranty document for details.
