What makes a caravan off-grid capable

An off-grid caravan is one you can park up away from powered sites and keep living in for days or weeks at a time. That comes down to three things: power, water and waste.

  • Power. Enough battery capacity, solar input and inverter output to run lights, fridge, fans, charging and the kettle without a generator. The bigger the lithium bank and the more solar on the roof, the longer you stay out.
  • Water. Enough fresh water to cook, drink, shower and wash up between fills, plus enough grey water capacity to comply with park and station rules.
  • Air conditioning. An inverter sized to start and run the AC on battery, which makes the difference between a usable van in summer and one you have to abandon by lunchtime.

A caravan with a small battery and a 200W solar panel will be off-grid for two nights. A caravan with the right kit will be off-grid for the length of your fresh-water supply.

How Titanium does off-grid

Standard across our off-grid models, scaled to the size of the van:

  • Enerdrive B-Tech lithium batteries, sized from 400Ah up to 690Ah depending on model
  • 800 to 1,400W of rooftop solar
  • A 2,600W or larger inverter to run AC and high-draw appliances off-grid
  • 245 to 400 litre fresh water capacity
  • Grey water capacity sized to match

S3 and S4 are the S-series flagships, designed for couples and families who want a touring van that stays out for weeks at a time. WS1 is the W-series flagship, with the largest standard off-grid kit in the range. TS1 is the toy hauler, with full off-grid spec plus a rear garage for bikes or gear.

Who buys an off-grid caravan

Off-grid buyers usually fall into one of these groups:

  • Couples doing the lap, who want to free-camp in stations and remote parks rather than book a powered site every night
  • Families running long school-holiday trips through the dry season when powered sites book out months ahead
  • Buyers heading into the Top End, the Kimberley or the Flinders Ranges where powered sites are rare
  • Anyone who’s done one trip on a small battery and one tap and decided once was enough

Off-grid kit and off-road suspension are different things. A caravan can be off-grid capable without being off-road capable, and the other way around. Most buyers want both. See our off-road caravans for the chassis and suspension side of the conversation. If you tour as a couple, our couples caravans range covers the layouts. Hybrids carry the same off-grid kit at a smaller scale, see our hybrid caravans.

Off-road capability refers to suitability for unsealed and corrugated roads. Use in extreme or technical 4WD conditions may fall outside the intended design and void the warranty. See warranty document for details.

Built the Titanium way

The nine pillars that define every Titanium build. Highlighted below are the ones most relevant to this category.

Off-Grid Ready

Solar panels, batteries and water tanks as standard inclusions, so you can enjoy life off the grid with the comforts of home.

Aluminium Frame

Inspired by automotive and aviation, our Henrob-riveted aluminium frames are built to outlast traditional caravan construction methods. They resist rot, moisture, termites and cracking.

Interlocking Furniture

Over 650 interlocking joins. Precise tongue-in-groove furniture built for rigidity and stability on the move.

Australian Made & Owned

Proudly Australian made and owned. We source premium componentry and support local manufacturing.

In-House Trades

Our qualified in-house electricians and plumbers are dedicated to producing quality caravans.

Warranty & Service Network

5-year structural warranty and 2-year manufacturer warranty as standard, backed by a nationwide caravan service network.

Support You Can Count On

Our dedicated customer service team is with you from first enquiry to handover, and well beyond.

Rugged Build & Looks

Purpose-built for Australian conditions, and turns heads at every campsite.

One-Piece Fibreglass Composite Panel Roof

The one-piece fibreglass composite roof typically insulates better than a framed roof, because the insulation covers the full panel rather than leaving the gaps you get around frame members.

Frequently asked questions

What is an off-grid caravan?

A caravan you can live in for days or weeks at a time without a powered site, a tap or a sewer connection. It carries enough battery, solar, water and grey-water capacity to keep running on its own, and an inverter sized to start and run high-draw appliances like air conditioning off the battery.

How long can I stay off-grid in a Titanium?

The honest answer is, as long as your fresh water lasts. Power is rarely the constraint with a 400Ah-plus lithium bank and 800W of solar feeding it. Most Titanium owners free-camp until their fresh water tank runs out, which depending on the model and how many people are on board is usually 4 to 10 days.

What's the difference between off-grid and off-road?

Off-grid is about power, water and waste capacity. Off-road is about chassis, suspension and wheels. A caravan can be off-grid capable without being off-road capable, and the other way around. The Titanium off-grid models in this range are also off-road capable. The two go together for the way most Australian buyers tour.

Do I need lithium batteries to go off-grid?

Practically speaking, yes. Lead-acid and AGM batteries lose roughly half their usable capacity to depth-of-discharge rules. Lithium gives you the rated capacity you paid for, charges faster, weighs less and lasts longer. Every Titanium ships with Enerdrive B-Tech lithium as standard, sized from 400 to 690 amp-hours depending on the model.

How much solar does a Titanium have?

Between 800W and 1400W of rooftop solar depending on the model. That's enough to recharge a 400 to 690 amp-hour lithium bank from a normal day's use, even with the air conditioning running for a few hours. Solar is paired with a charge controller and a battery management system sized to match.

Can I run air conditioning off-grid?

Yes. The inverter fitted as standard across the range, 2,600W or larger depending on the model, is sized to start and run a roof-mount caravan air conditioner from the battery bank. You can't run AC continuously for a full day from solar alone, but you can run it long enough to take the edge off the afternoon, then let the solar recharge through the cooler hours.

How long does a fresh water tank last?

Across our off-grid models, fresh water capacity ranges from 245 to 400 litres. For a couple cooking, drinking and showering on board, that's typically 7 to 10 days. Families use it faster. Water is usually the bottleneck for an off-grid stay, not power.

What's the warranty on off-grid components?

The lithium batteries, solar, inverter and charge controller all carry their respective manufacturer warranties, supported by Enerdrive Australian service agents. The Titanium build itself carries a 5-year structural warranty plus a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Routine servicing and authorised warranty work are available through our two Titanium Service Centres and approved service centres Australia wide. Contact our Warranty and Service team and we will connect you with the right provider in your area. Full warranty cover, inclusions, exclusions and conditions are set out in the Titanium Caravans Warranty Booklet, available on request. This warranty is provided in addition to the rights and remedies you have under the Australian Consumer Law and does not exclude, restrict or modify them.
